New Covenant Prayers

Beginnings

The very first words Jesus speaks are found in Matthew 4:4. After 40 days of fasting in the wilderness the tempter came to Jesus saying, 'turn these stones to bread.' Jesus answer, ‘man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.'

This command from the 8th chapter of Deuteronomy says: 3And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of the LORD.

These are the words Moses spoke to all Israel beyond Jordan in the wilderness on the 40th year, 11th month, 1st day of the month and they have special significance. Our bread and sustenance originate from the bible, not someone's imagination. Spurgeon said, 'the bible is not a weapon of controversy, but our daily food.' Jesus said, 'my meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work. John 4:34 So we also must do the will of God by the confession of every word. Life is too short to express doubt or express unbelief in the bible. 'He who has My word, let him speak My word faithfully.' Jeremiah 23:28 For what is straw compared to grain.

'To live for bread alone is to not live. We live by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God, not by every feeling we experience. You have never received spiritual life by your own feelings. It was when you believed God’s Word that you lived; and you will never get an increase of spiritual life, and grow in grace, by your own feelings or your own doings. It must still be by your believing the promises and feeding on the Word.' Spurgeon

Under the old covenant they lived by the letter of the law written upon tablets of stone by the finger of God, Under the new covenant the finger of God becomes the Spirit of God. Pray the words you find in the New Testament that are foreshadowed by the Old Testament to bring about the fulfillment of the love and promise of God. Pray new covenant prayers! For example, pray, ‘I  live not on bread alone, but by every word thou hast written upon my heart and will write upon my heart by the spirit of God through the word of the new covenant which is the New Testament.’

This is a promise founded upon promises in the New Covenant foreshadowed in the Old. You are claiming the promise that he will write upon your heart by the spirit of God.
